Hardwood and Laminate Cleaning Tips

Never use a wet mop to clean any hardwood or laminate floor. You can find a large selection of hard surface cleaners at local retailers. Use a damp mop, such as a micro fiber cloth, and a cleaner especially created for hard surface flooring.

Never wax a pre-finished floor. These days most hardwood flooring comes pre-finished and never needs waxing. That is part of the attraction to hardwood flooring. No wax no mess.

Resilient Vinyl Flooring Cleaning Tips

Use only color locked bath mats and floor rugs. Staining may occur if this is not followed.

Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove any dirt and grit that may damage the floor. Avoid any one step mop and polish cleaners, dishwashing detergents or any oil-based cleaners, which may leave a residue on the floor. Wipe spills promptly, and clean your floor with any suitable floor cleaner.

Some stains and spills may be cleaned in the following ways-

Acids and alkalis, fruit and fruit juices, blood grass, ketchup, urine, vomit, food or dyes:

  1. Rub the area with a 10 to 1 dilution of water to liquid bleach.
  2. Rub the stain with isopropyl alcohol. Careful, this liquid is flammable.

Nail polish, paint, oil based paints, solvents, gum, oil, candle wax, heel marks, and scuffs:

  1. If the substance is dry gently peel it away from the floor. Avoid using any sharp instrument that may scratch or cut the floor surface.
  2. Rub lightly with mineral spirits or lighter fluid. Careful these agents are flammable.

Carpet Cleaning Tips

No carpet is completely stain proof following these simple procedures will help extend the life of your floor.

  1. Vacuum regularly, high traffic areas daily. Grit and dirt are abrasive and can wear out carpet quickly if not vacuumed on a regular basis.
  2. Should you stain your carpet treat it as soon as possible. First, scrape any food spill with a spoon to remove as much of the stain as possible. Then apply a low residue carpet spot remover working from the outside of the stain to the center. Blot with a clean cloth. DO NOT RUB! Continue until the stain is removed.
  3. Use floor mats and runners in high traffic areas.
  4. Have your carpet professionally cleaned using a hot water extraction method every 12 to 18 month
